Jamaica's Briana Williams tests positive for banned substance

Jamaica’s rising sprint star Briana Williams is unlikely to compete this month’s World Championships in Doha.

Williams, who is before the Independent Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel (IADP) for failing a drug test, will not have her case heard until 23-25 September.

“We had the preliminary hearing (today, 10 Sept) as to whether the athletes wanted to proceed with a hearing, and she chooses to have a hearing,” said Chairman of the IADP, Kent Gammon

“We would not have known that until today and we will proceed on the 23rd and we will make our findings in due course based on the evidence.”

Gammon will be joined on the three-member panel by Dr Marjorie Vassell and Ms Denise Forrest.

Jamaica is expected to name its Doha 2019 World Championships on Wednesday, 11 Sept, but entries for the event close on 15 Sept.

The World Championships will be over ten days, 27 Sept to 6 Oct.

Williams tested positive for the banned diuretic Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) at the Jamaica Trials in June.
