The NACAC U18 & U23 Championships recently took place at Estadio Nacional in San José, Costa Rica, from July 21-23. The event featured an impressive display of exceptional talent and sportsmanship as young athletes from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean region competed.

The United States emerged as the dominant force, securing an impressive tally of 47 medals, placing them at the top of the medal standings. Their young athletes, including Mia Brahe-Pedersen, delivered outstanding performances throughout the competition. Team USA won 23 gold, 16 silver, and eight bronze.

Despite facing immigration challenges that affected their team’s numbers, Jamaica’s athletes, led by Theianna-Lee Terrelonge, showed a valiant spirit, demonstrating determination and skill that contributed significantly to their country’s 32 overall medal count. Jamaica won 13 gold, 14 silver, and five bronze.

Canada also showcased their sporting prowess, earning a commendable total of 28 medals. Their young talents excelled in various events, exemplifying their nation’s athletic excellence.

Beyond celebrating the triumph of young athletes, the NACAC U18 & U23 Championships fostered a spirit of camaraderie among nations in the region.

  1. Jamaica’s performance was impressive, considering they finished closely behind the USA in the competition. However, it’s essential to highlight that Team Jamaica encountered a significant setback as 26 of their athletes were unable to participate due to visa issues. On the other hand, Team USA’s participation was limited to the U23 section exclusively. Despite these challenges, both teams demonstrated noteworthy performances in the event.
