Jamaican sprinting talent Kiara Grant won the women's 200m at the Great Dane Classic here on Saturday, 11 January.

Jamaican Kiara Grant won her women’s 60m race at the Virginia Beach Invitational in Virginia on Monday (1 Feb).

Grant ran 7.20 seconds, which equalled her personal best done at University Park, Pennsylvania in 2020. She ran 7.36 in the heats.

Grenadian Halle Hazzard, representing Virginia, was second behind Grant in 7.29. Jada Seaman, also of Virginia, finished third in 7.37.
Kayla Bonnick, formerly of St. Jago, and also representing Virginia, finished fourth in 7.53.

In the 200m, Grant, Norfolk State’s junior, won heat 2 in 23.99 but had to settle for second overall behind Seaman, 23.56.

This season, Grant ran 7.41 and 7.35 in Columbia, South Carolina and 24.43 over 200m in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Jamaican Owayne Owens won the men’s long jump with a personal best of 7.58m. Entering the competition with a career-best leap of 7.17m, Owens improved on that jump with an effort of 7.23m in his second attempt. On his fifth try, he erased that mark by going 7.39m. On his sixth and final attempt, he won the competition by tying the UVA record Jordan Scott set in 2019.

Owens, who represented Jamaica the Tampere 2018 World U20 Championships, edged Ja’Von Douglas, also 7.58 for the top spot on countback.

Andrenette Knight was the third Jamaica winner at the meet. Virginia Graduate student, she ran 56.52 to win the women’s 400m ahead of Maiah Walker, 58.20.
