Tamari Davis won her first race of the 2021 season at the KMS Open held inside the Crossplex, Bessemer Road, Birmingham, USA on Sunday (31 Jan).
Davis, who will celebrate her 18th birthday on the 15th, dashed to 7.21 for a comfortable victory in the final. She fell just short of her 7.19 personal best and World U18 best, done in South Carolina in July last year.
Shannon Ray, representing Empire Athletics, ran 7.45 for second place while Samantha Dirks of Belize finished third in 7.52.
Earlier, in the preliminaries, Davis, who signed a professional deal with Adidas in 2020, ran 7.42 to qualify.
Davis opened her season two weeks ago, 15 Jan, in Birmingham, Alabama. She ran 39.53 for fourth overall in the women’s 300m, won then by Jessica Beard, 37.54.
British Virgin Islands’ (BVI) Ashley Kelly, representing TruFit Athletics, ran 7.64 in the heats.
Kelly ran 24.72 for third in the women’s 200m, won by Na’Sha Robinson, 23.64.
Grace Clayton of Puerto Rico won the women’s 600m and 800m events. She ran 1:29.58 to take the women’s 600m ahead of Nikki Mata, 1:36.51 in the 600m.
In the 800m, Claxton was timed in 2:12.40 ahead of Anouk Prop of Georgia State, 2:15.13.
