Ashanti Moore of Hydel opened her 2020 season in style at Saturday’s Pure Water JC/Danny Williams Meet on at Jamaica College’s Ashenheim Stadium.
Moore, who was running her first race since running a stunning 11.17s at Champs 2019 in March, won the Class 1 girls’ 100m dash in 11.74 seconds. Edwin Allen Ackelia Smith, 12.07s, was the second-best Class 1 sprinter on the day.
However, Serena Cole, also of Edwin Allen, recorded the day’s fastest female time of 11.61 to take the Class 2 girls’ event. Shenese Walker of Hydel also went under 12 seconds with 11.81s.
Hydel Class 3 sprinters also enjoyed a great day with the pair of Alana Reid, 11.76 and Kerrika Hill, 11.86s, both dipping below 12 seconds.
Hydel also won Class 4 with Shemonique Hazel, who crossed the line in 12.28.
On the boys’ side, Jamaica College’s (JC) pair of Mark Miller, 11.37 in Class 3 Dwight Downer, 11.20 in Class 2, were 100m winners.
Rahiem Scott of Rusea’s and St. Jago’s Kimarley Stewart, both ran 10.97 in the Class 1 boys’ 100m dash. Scott won heat seven against -0.8 m/s wind while Stewart victory came in heat three against a -0.7m/s wind.
Kimar Farquharson of Calabar ran 1:51.42 to win the Class 1 boys’ 800m ahead of Edwin Allen’s Chevonne Hall, 1:52.19.
Shantae Foreman, now at St. Jago, cleared 1.77m to take top honours in the girls’ Class 2 high jump. Kavian Kerr of St. Jago won the Class 1 boys’ long jump with 7.53m
JC’s Shakiel Dacres threw 54.45m for the discus boys’ top spot. Danielle Sloley of Immaculate won the Class 1 girls’ discus with a throw of 14.15m.
