Racers Grand Prix, apart of the 2020 World Athletics Continental Tour series, will dish out over US$200,000 in prize money at its next staging.

The Racers Grand Prix will have 14 events, among them seven core events, which will offer prize money of US$20,000 each for a total of US$140,000. The others, discretionary events, will carry prize money of US$10,000 each for a total of US$70,000.

The 100m, 200m and discus, all for men and women, along with the women’s triple jump, are the core events.

Wayde van Niekerk, the world’s 400m record holder, if fit, will return to the meet in 2020.

Meanwhile, Cubie Seegobin said they have also started discussions with top Jamaicans athletes for the meet, which will be two weeks before the Jamaican Championships.

The meet, set for June 13, 2020, the same day as the Paris Diamond League, but organizers are pleased with the date.

Seegobin, a member of the Racers Grand Prix organizing committee, explained: “That tells you how important out meet is to the circuit.”

Asked by host of the CVM show Wayne Walker if this means they will have to work hard to get quality athletes, a confident Seegobin replied: “We don’t have to work hard, first of all, it was the date we selected, and then the Diamond League came out with their dates.”

Seegobin continued: “We said to the IAAF, we going the 13th, if you want us in the tour, that’s the date we are going to be, and we were given the date to go up against the Paris meet.”

Seegobin was also asked ‘why did you take it (date)’ to which he replied, “because we already have commitments of athletes to come to our meet.

Usain Bolt, Mo Farah, David Rudisha and Wayde van Niekerk are among the world stars to compete at the Racers Grand Prix.

  1. ??Up up up move??
Really, when you think of what this little Island has contributed to Athletics since the 1940s…I’m saddened that mismanagement of the brand is not as urgent an issue as one would’ve thought. There should’ve been tons of sponsors(globally…because we can’t afford it on our own) flinging money at this meet to make it a more premiere event in athletics. Also, we must get a new or renovated, updated, modern, international class athletics stadium…and don’t tell me we can’t find the money??‍♂️
