Jamaica Athletics Invitational - Dalilah Muhammad breaks world 400m hurdles record at USA Trials

Dalilah Muhammad was in world record-breaking form on Sunday’s (28 July) final day of the 2019 Toyota USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships, Doha 2019 Trials.

The Olympic champion, drawn in lane four, went out hard and quickly made up the stagger on the athletes outside her, including 2015 world silver medallist Shamier Little and world U20 record-holder Sydney McLaughlin.

Muhammad, who entered the straight with a commanding lead, left Little, McLaughlin and Ashley Spencer to fight for the minor places.

Muhammad powered across the in 52.20secs, 0.14 off the previous world record set in 2003 by Yuliya Pechonkina.

“I’m still in shock,” she said. “I broke the world record. I don’t think it’s hit me yet.”

McLaughlin finished second in 52.88 and Spencer, third in 53.11. Little, who ran the 400m at Jamaica Trials in June, finished fourth in 53.91.
