CLEMSON – Sabina Allen broke the conference and school record in the triple jump to highlight Campbell University’s performances in the Clemson Orange & Purple Invite on Saturday (January 6).

“She was deliberate and knew what she wanted to do,” said jumps coach T.J. Harris. “We were well prepared and this type of performance is what has been expected of her. It was a good day.”

Harris continued, “She knows how capable she is. To see her set out a goal, work for it and then do it was fun to watch.”

Allen set a new lifetime best in the triple jump with a mark of 13.33m to earn second place as the top collegiate competitor. She broke her own school record of 13.01m, which she set at the Big South Indoor Championships on Feb. 26, 2016.

The Spanish Town, Jamaica, native’s mark of 13.33m on Saturday broke the Big South record, which was previously held by Chasity Johnson of Coastal Carolina with a mark of 13.20m in 2005. Allen’s mark is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation, only behind Kentucky’s Marie-Josee Ebwea-Bile (13.63m).

“If it’s like previous years, this mark should hold up for a spot at nationals, which includes the best 16 marks in the country at the end of the indoor season,” said head coach Michael Kelly. “That’s a really big accomplishment for her.”
