Jamaican athletes enjoyed a reasonably good Wednesday morning at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.

Nathon Allen looked good in running his best race this season, 45.18secs, to win heat one of the men’s 400-metre.
Allen’s teammates Anthony Cox, 45.51 and Jevaughn Powell, 46.14, also secured their semi-final tickets.
Asa Guevara of Trinidad and Tobago also qualified from heat one with 45.98. Barbadians Jonathan Jones, 46.39 and Kyle Gale, 46.66, Michael Francois of Grenada, 46.35 and Alonzo Russell, 46.41, have also advanced to the next round.
In the women’s 400m, Junelle Bromfield was the lone Jamaican qualifier. She ran 52.04 to finish second in her heat behind England’s Victoria Ohuruogu, 51.34.
Roneisha McGregor didn’t make it with her 53.28, while Tiffany James-Rose did not start.
Barbadian Oregon22 World Championships bronze medallist Sada Williams, one of the gold’s favourites, easily won her heat in 51.66.
Aliyah Abrams of Guyana also advanced with 52.23.
Navasky Anderson, seeking to create history in an event Jamaica has never won, booked his final spot in the 800m with 1:47.49. Peter Bol of Australia leads the way with 1:47.01.
