EUGENE (USA): From world leaders 2022, the majority are competing to ensure the highest possible level at Oregon22.
Missing are marathon world leaders Eliud Kipchoge and Brigid Kosgei, as well as triple jumper Jordan Alejandro Diaz (17.87, originally from Cuba who wants to compete for Spain but is not able as yet).
Missing also is decathlon world leader Garrett Scantling from USA who is injured. US 10,000 m world leader Elise Cranny competes in the 5000 meters. Russian world leaders obviously are not competing, such as Ilya Ivanyuk (2.34 in high jump) and their walkers.

EUGENE (USA): In total, 84 countries have at least one male entry and 49 countries have a single woman entered for Oregon22. Prominent names on the men’s side are pole vaulter Ernest John Obiena for the Philippines and high jumper Majd Edin Ghazal for Syria.
For the women, steeple runner Luiza Gega for Albania, sprinter Julien Alfred of St. Lucia, high jumper Maria Vukovic from Montenegro, plus sprinters Beatrice Masilingi for Namibia and Aminatou Seyni for Niger.
PORTLAND (USA): Francine Niyonsaba has withdrawn from the World Championships in Oregon22. She wrote on Instagram that she was diagnosed with “the beginning of a stress fracture” last month.
She added: “I am almost OK but I am not in the shape that can allow me to perform the way I wanted.” Niyonsaba was due to contest the 5000 meters and 10,000 meters.
NASSAU (BAH): Reigning world and Olympic 400-meter champion Steven Gardiner has pulled out of the World Championships due to tendon inflammation.
NAIROBI (KEN): Olympic champion Peres Jepchirchir will not compete in the marathon at the World Championships in Oregon due to discomfort in her hip, informs the Daily Nation.
“I am so disappointed but I would rather not aggravate the injury since we still have another world event next year before my Olympic title defence,” she said.
EUGENE (USA): 2015 world javelin champion Julius Yego is the team captain for Kenya at the World Athletics Championships, according to the Daily Nation.
MONACO (MON): The traditional statistics handbook for the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 is now available as an ebook and a downloadable PDF.
The 898-page book has been produced in collaboration with the Association of Track and Field Statisticians (ATFS) and edited by renowned athletics statistician Mark Butler.
