Jamaica College (JC), after the 200m and 1600m sprint medley finals, is holding onto their 18.5-point lead over Kingston College on Saturday’s (15 May) final day of Champs 2021.
After the 400/800m finals, JC 236.5 lead KC 218 by 18.5 points. JC maintained their lead after the 200m finals, 283.5 to 265.
In the 200m finals, JC picked up one point more than KC 22 to 21. At this stage, JC lead with 272.5 ahead of KC, 262 and Calabar 194.
KC won Class 3 with Nicardo Johnson, 22.91, finished 3rd in Class 3 with Amontae Wray, 21.84. Mark Manley of Calabar won Class 2 in 21.46.
Antonio Watson of Petersfield won the Class 1 boys’ 200m final in 20.74, but KC picked up six points for Kerr’s 3rd place finish in 21.31.
All the girls’ 200m winners ended with double gold medals.
Tina Clayton and her teammate Theianna-Lee Terrelonge completed 100/200m double. Lavanya Daley of Rusea’s also won 100/200m while her teammate Ahliyaah Francis ended with the Class 1 200/400m double.
Terrelonge won the 200m girls’ Class 4 final in 25.35. Daley won the 200m Class 3 final in 24.50 ahead of Hydel’s Jody-Ann Daley, 25.02.
Clayton ran 23.45 to take the Class 2 final, and Francis’ 23.85 handed her Class 1 honours.
The boys’ 1600m sprint medley, which saw STETHS winning in 3:26.19, had its drama. JC’s Omarion Davis, who led at the bell, shortly fell off the track. He took some time to get up and, when he did, worked his way back to 5th to 3rd across the line in 3:31.77.
KC finished 2nd in 3:28.90.
At this stage, the lead atop the boys’ standing fell to 16.5 points – 291.5 to 272.
In the girls’ 1600m medley open, Manchester won in 4:03.25 ahead of Holmwood, 4:03.87. St. Jago finished 4th in 4:08.14 and Edwin Allen 5th in 4:11.41.
Edwin Allen led with 280 points at this stage, 44.5 more than St. Jago 235.5 with the 3,000m open, 4x100m finals, 4x400m, heptathlon and Class 1 girls’ long jump results outstanding.
In the Class 2 boys’ high jump, KC finished 1-2 with Aaron McKenzie, 2.01m and Aaron Thomas, 1.98m. Chavez Penn of JC picked up third with a clearance of 1.95m
