Olympic triple jump champion Christian Taylor has launched The Athletics Association in response to the IAAF’s decision to drop several disciplines within next year’s Diamond League 2020.

Taylor wrote on Twitter that the association is designed to give athletes’ a voice independent of the IAAF’s own athletes’ commission.

The American received overwhelming support on social media.

Dina Asher-Smith, Doha 2019 World 200m champion, tweeted in response: “You know you always have my support!! Let’s do this.”

“Thank you to all the athletes and all the fans that have already followed us and helped to spread this important message! In the coming days, we will release more information about how we plan on changing things and what the next action will be,” tweeted the TheAthleticsAssociation with the hashtag #WeAreTheSport

“We are determined to gain a seat at the table and help shape the future of the sport for the better. In addition, we will fight for the rights of ALL professional Track and Field athletes around the world,” the twitter page stated.
