Elaine Thompson and Natoya Goule struck gold for Jamaica at the Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru on Wednesday (7 Aug).

Thompson, the Olympic Games sprint double champion, topped the women’s 100m field in 11.18secs. She was winning her first Pan Am Games title.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Michelle-Lee Ahye (11.27) pocketed silver while Vitoria Christina (11.30) took the bronze.

Natasha Morrison, also of Jamaica, finished sixth in 11.40s and Kelly-Ann Baptiste of Trinidad and Tobago ended eight in 11.52s.

Goule, who lived up to her 800m pre-champs building, sealed the deal in 2 minutes, 01.26 seconds.

Rose Mary Almanza of Cuba finished second in 2:01.64, just edging out the bronze medal winner Déborah Rodriquez of Uruguay, 2:01.66.

Jamaica’s Rasheed Dwyer, 10.32, finished fifth in the men’s 100m. American Michael Rodgers won the event in 10.09s.

Antigua and Barbuda’s Cejhae Greene ran 10.23s to take the bronze medal.

Jason Rodgers of St. Kitts and Nevis with 10.40 and Keston Bledman of Trinidad and Tobago with 10.43 were 7th and 8th respectively.

Earlier, Jamaicans Yanique Thompson, 12.90s and Megan Tapper, 13.10s, along with Bahamian Pedrya Seymour, 12.94, booked their places in the final of the women’s 100m hurdles.

Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson, who won semi-final one in 51.99, along with Sada Williams of Barbados, 52.31 and Guyanese Aliyah Abrams, 52.95, secured their places in the women’s 400m final.

Grenada’s Bralon Taplin, 45.38 and Jamaica’s Demish Gaye, 45.47 advanced to the men’s 400m medal round.
