Jamaican Julian Robinson, who is responsible for the world’s best male discus thrower in 2018, is North America, Central America and the Caribbean Track and Field Coaches Association (NACACTFCA) Coach of the Year.

Robinson, who over the last 10 years brought Jamaica and by extension regional throwing to a new level, helped Fedrick Dacres to multiple titles and world number one status in 2018.

Dacres began the year by winning the Commonwealth Games title, later adding the NACAC accolade before beating the world to claim the Diamond League and Continental crowns.

Dacres is also NACAC’s Male Athlete of the Year.

Traves Smikle, another athlete coached by Robinson, was also in the mix. He took silver at both Commonwealth Games and NACAC Senior Championships. He was also the bronze medal winner at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games.

At the Junior level, Robinson is also responsible for the gold medal success of Kai Chang, who won the World Under-20 discus title.

Zackery Dillon, CARIFTA Games Under-17 shot put and discus titles, added to Robinson’s 2018 achievements.

“I am honoured and humbled,” Robinson replied when asked to comment on being named NACAC Coach of the Year.

“It says a lot about the advancement of the throws in Jamaica and NACAC region,” he said.
