Former world 100m record holder Asafa Powell is “excited” to be going back to the Cayman Islands, one of his “favourite places” for this weekend’s (June 2) Cayman Invitational.

“I’m excited to come to Cayman again, and to be a part of this world-class event,” said Powell.

“The Cayman Islands has always been one of my favourite places in the West Indies and I’m really looking forward to returning this weekend,” added the sprint star.

Powell, Rio 2016 Olympic Games 4x100m gold medallist, will face a good field in the men’s 100m dash.

Nesta Carter, who teamed up with Powell and Usain Bolt, on several of Jamaica’s 4x100m medal-winning teams, is also down to face the starter.

Two other Jamaicans in Senoj-Jay Givans and Tyquendo Tracey, along with Caymanian Kemar Hyman and Keston Bledman from Trinidad and Tobago are in the field.

Americans Jeff Demps and Jarrion Lawson will also be at the at the start line.

Powell, the 2007 and 2009 World Championships 100m bronze medallist, will be returning to competition for the first time since February. He pulled out of April’s Commonwealth Games with a hamstring injury picked up at a local meet in February.
