Live coverage of the 2018 Jamaica Invitational – IAAF World Challenge Meet – will be available online on Saturday (19) at the National Stadium.

 This year’s Jamaica International Invitational will feature several world-class athletes from both local and international, while the highlight is expected to come from the sprinting events.

Jamaica’s double Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson is set to lead a large list of quality local athletes.

Thompson, who posted 10.93 seconds in the 100m this season at the Diamond League opener in Doha, opted to skip the next Diamond League meeting in Shanghai due to physical issues, is expected to win this meeting.

Five other Jamaicans in Christania Williams, Gayon Evans, Kerron Stewart, Jura Levy and Natasha Morrison, along with Americans Tianna Bartoletta, many-time 4x100m gold medallist, and Quanesha Burks will face Thompson in the women’s 100m.

In the men’s 400m race, American runner and three-time Olympic gold medallists Lashawn Merritt, South African 2015 bronze medal winner Anaso Jobodwana and talented high school talent Christopher Taylor.

Super 200m clash expected at Jamaica Invitational

Shericka Jackson against Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor and American world 400m champion Phyllis Francis will highlight the women’s 200m.

The tough field will also include, Jamaican Simone Facey, Americans Candyce McGrone, Kyra Jefferson and Kimberlyn Duncan. Sherone Simpson is also in the line-up.

Among the other top athletes and global medallist on the schedule to compete at the 2018 Jamaica International Invitational are USA’s Olympic 400m hurdles bronze medal winner Ashley Spencer, World Championships 400m hurdles bronze medallist Ristanana Tracey of Jamaica, as well as recently crowned Commonwealth Games 400m hurdles champion Janieve Russell of Jamaica.

The list of featured athletes also includes Olympic champion in the 400m hurdles, Kerron Clement, Grenadian 400m runner Bralon Taplin, sprinter Ronnie Baker of the USA and Bahamian high jumpers Donald Thomas and Jamal Wilson.
