Jamaican Shardia Lawrence recorded a personal best and school record at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Saturday (11 Feb).

The former Vere and Hydel student, now representing Kansas State University (K-State), hop skip and jump 13.75 metres for second place at the meet held at the Randal Tyson Center. Yanis David of Florida won the event with 13.93m while her teammate Darrielle McQueen, 13.44m, finished second.

Lawrence, who improved on her previous best of 13.34m, set back in January, also broke Chaytan Hill’s 13-year-old school record of 13.65m.
Her mark is currently the top jump in the Big 12 Conference and the third-best mark in Division I this season.

Shardia’s twin sister and Jamaica’s Olympian Shadae congratulated her on her record breacking performance.
“Congrats Shardia Jumpholic Lawrence on breaking the indoor schoool record with a jump of 13.75m,” she wrote on her social media page.
“I’m glad you’re performing the way you want to!!!!! Great things come to those who wait and have faith and you did just that when you were at your low point. More to come, I’m proud of you! Love ya, welcome to the record club,” her message concluded.
