BEIJING, China – O’Dayne Richards won Jamaica’s first medal at the 15th World Championships in Beijing, China by equaling his national record of 21.69 metres on Sunday.

Richards achieved the feat with his third attempt, which enabled him to entertain the lead for a brief moment, before capturing the bronze medal.

“I wanted a PB,” he said while adding “but it’s a bronze medal and I am happy for that.”

The event was won by Joe Kovacs of United Sates of America in 21.93 metres with David Storl of Germany second in 21.74.
