Asafa Powell knows what he has to do to beat American Justin Gatlin.

Gatlin is the sprinter to beat this year, and according to Powell, “So I have to ensure that I work on running faster “

Gatlin ran 9.75 to beat Asafa Powell and Tyson Gay; both crossed the finish line in 9.92, at the IAAF Diamond League in Lausanne on Thursday (9 July).

Gatlin with timers of 9.74 and 9.75 (twice) is the fastest man in the world this year, ahead of Asafa Powell 9.81 and 9.84 (twice).

Gatlin’s 9.74 is a personal best, and according to Powell, "that's the best of Justin.”

Powell, however, admitted, “he's (Gatlin) very consistent.”

“I guess in order to beat him I have to run 9.73 and I will be in front," Powell laughed.

In Lausanne, Powell said: "I actually really expected to win.”
"I thought I was going to win, but I just didn't execute the race like I should. I'm not that disappointed that I lost though, I am more disappointed that I didn't get to execute my race properly."
