American Justin Gatlin said he love competitive races. He was very happy to face two of the world’s fastest sprinters at the IAAF Diamond League in Lausanne on Thursday (9 July).

"It's always good to face the best, it's like a heavyweight boxing match, that's what I want to do,” said Gatlin.

He ran 9.75 to beat Asafa Powell and Tyson Gay, both crossed the finish line in 9.92.

"I love this track! Last year I ran 9.79sec, this year there was more competition with Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell," said Gatlin.

Gatlin with timers of 9.74, 9.75 (twice) is the fastest man in the world this year, ahead of Asafa Powell 9.81 and 9.84 (twice), while Gay’s best is 9.87.

Now after the win, which makes it 26 straight, Gatlin wants to take down the American record of 9.69 set by Gay in 2009.

“One of my big objectives is the American record,” said Gatlin.
