ASTANA (KAZ, Jan 23): First Asian World Indoor Tour silver meet ever was held in Kazakhstan with some good results. 

Ever-young Mike Rodgers edged Demek Kemp in the duel of US sprinters as both clocked 6.66 in the 60m.

Also, the women’s winner was fast; Arialis Gandulla (former Cuban) improved as Portugal’s runner to 7.18 PB and only missed the national record by 0.01. Cuban Roger Iribarne won the 60 m hurdles in 7.62 ahead of Kazakhstan’s David Efremov in 7.65, who improved his national indoor record to 7.62 in heats. 

But there were good home wins, Mikhail Litvin with 46.41 in the 400 m (ahead of Brazilian Alexander Ruso in his first-ever indoor meet at 46.74) and World indoor bronze medalist Nadezhda Dubovitskaya with 193 in the high jump. Good shape by 2017 European U20 champion Marino Bloudek from Croatia with a 1:48.23 indoor PB 800 m win. 

Behind him, Nicholas Kiplangat 1:48.31 and Slovenian Jan Vukovic 1:48.72 also indoor PB. Kenyan Jarinter Mwasya, in 4:14.26 (her first-ever indoor race), beat Ethiopian Hirut Meshesha at 4:14.40 in the 1500 m. Ethiopian Ali Abdilmana won men’s 3000 m in 7:52.43 (indoor debut).
