Jamaica’s Olympic Games sprint double champion Elaine Thompson-Herah is down to make her 2020 Diamond League debut on Thursday (16 Sept).

Thompson, the Rio 2016 100m and 200m winner, is expected to make light work of the women’s 100m field in Rome, Italy.

She is the only sub-11 second competitor in the field with a 10.88 season’s best. Ajla Del Ponte arrives fresh from another win in Bellinzona.

Also debuting in Europe this season is Jamaican Julian Forte. He will face the starter in the men’s 100m.

The men’s 100m line-up is headed by Akani Simbine and Filippo Tortu, who finished first with 10.02 and second 10.07 respectively in Bellinzona on Tuesday.

American Mike Rodgers, who is also fresh from a victory in Zagreb, and Arthur Cisse, who won in Ostrava and Berlin, are also in the field.

In the 100m hurdles, World leader Nadine Visser has only lost once this season, but she will be challenged by Cyrena Samba-Mayela who recently won the French title in 12.73.

Italian youngster Edoardo Scotti is marginally the fastest on paper with a 45.48 season’s best, but Dutch Jochem Dobber is expected to make a race of the men’s 400m.

In the 110m hurdles, the fastest men on paper this season are Andrew Pozzi (13.14) and Wilhem Belocian (13.18), the latter a winner in Zagreb on Tuesday.

The 400m hurdles will see Karsten Warholm against the clock for the fifth time this year. Will he improve on his 47.08 clocking from the ISTAF in Berlin on Sunday?
