MARIETTA (USA, Jul 2): World record holder Wayde van Niekerk is back as he clocked his second-fastest time since 2017 at the Stars and Stripes Meet, part of American Track League and WACT Bronze.
van Niekerk won with a 44.58-second meet record over 400 meters. Jamaicans behind him were Rusheen McDonald (45.43) and Demish Gaye (45.47).
World leader Sandi Morris won the pole vault on count-back with 4.65 meters (tried at 4.75) over Kristen Leland (4.65 – equalled personal best) with Bridget Williams also 4.65 and Olympic winner Katie Nageotte 4.55. Former world champion Tom Walsh won the shotput with 21.69 meters, beating US champs 5th-placer Roger Steen, who improved to 21.47. Third-place finisher was Jamaican O´Dayne Richards with a throw of 20.47.
In a loaded women’s 100-meter hurdles, Tia Jones just returned from the Stockholm Diamond League won with 12.57 (+0.7w) ahead of Cindy Sember’s 12.66 and Tonea Marshall (12.74) with Mulern Jean of Haiti clocking 12.81 (personal best).
Jamaican Andranette Knight recorded a good 53.85 in the 400-meter hurdles. Ghana´s record holder Alex Amankwah won the 800 in 1:45.14 ahead of Mexican record holder Jesus Tonatiu Lopez (1:45.30).
In the 100 meters, Jamaican Shokoria Williams did 11.25 (while Chinese Ge Manqi did 11.11 +0.2w in the heats) and Kendal Williams ran 10.09 in both heats and finals.
Paris Williams won the men’s sprint hurdles in 13.53 (-0.3w), Amere Lattin took the 400 meters hurdles 49.04 and Jamaican Rasheed Dwyer won the 200 meters in 20.45 (+0.1w).
Nasha Robinson won the women’s 400 meters in 51.54 and Shafiqa Maloney from St. Vincent won the 800 meters in 2:01.58, a national record.
Jamaican long jump winners were Chanice Porter (6.55 meters) and Damarcus Simpson (7.95).
