Elaine Thompson headlines Jamaicans down for Paris DL

Elaine Thompson headline a list of eight Jamaicans down to compete at the Paris Diamond League on Saturday (24 August).

Thompson, Rio 2016 Olympic sprint double champion, will contest the women’s 100m dash. African champion Marie-Josee Ta Lou, two-time world 200m champion Dafne Schippers of Netherland, will try to upstage Thompson.

Jamaican Natallian Whyte and Teahna Daniels, US champion, will also be in the field.

Thompson has a season-best of 10.73, done to win at the Jamaica Trials.

Stephenie-Ann McPherson is in the women’s 400; Natoya Goule in the women’s 800m and Ronald Levy will start in the men’s 110m hurdles.

Expect the 110m hurdles standings to change after Paris. Two men in the field, Sergey Shubenkov and Orlando Ortega, have already earned a spot in the Brussels final. Two more, Xie Wenjun and Ronald Levy, are currently ranked among the top eight but need a good run in the French capital to hold on to their place.
Michael O’Hara will face in the men’s B 100m hurdles.

Ajee Wilson (USA), Raevyn Rogers (USA), Habitam Alemu (ETH), Nelly Jepkosgei (KEN) are the early qualifiers for the Final in Brussels on 6 September.
The likes of Natoya Goule, Olga Lyakhova, Hanna Green and Renelle Lamote look likely to move up the leader board after Saturday’s race.

British Virgin Islands’ Kyron McMaster is hoping for a good men’s 400m hurdles race in Paris.
David Kendziera, Yasmani Copello, McMaster and TJ Holmes are all currently ranked in the top seven so should consolidate those positions when they race in Paris.

Jamaicans Shanieka Ricketts and Kimberly Williams will contest the women’s triple jump. Caterine Ibarguen (COL), Shanieke Ricketts (JAM), Yulimar Rojas (VEN), Kimberly Williams (JAM), Liadagmis Povea (CUB)

The women’s triple jump will also feature World champion Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela. She leads the world with a PB of 15.06m.
