Trinidad and Tobago’s Cleopatra Borel have advanced to the final of the women’s shot put at the 15th World Athletics Championships in Beijing, China.

Borel got 18.55 metres on her second attempt, which was good enough to qualify her for the final.

Borel was very happy to get the first round out of the way. "Happy and just excited for this afternoon,” Borel said.

She will go to the final as the sixth best thrower. The competition is being led by Germany’s Christina Schwanitz, who threw 19.39 metres with Michele Carter of the USA in second with 19.22 and Lijiao Gong of China in third with 19.11.

Borel, looking forward to this afternoon’s final, “I am in good shape and I am just going to go out there and do my best,” she added.

Meanwhile, Jamaica’s Danniel Thomas finished 22th of 24th with a throw of 16.62. She only had one legal throw, which was her second of three.
