World Championships 200m silver medallist Warren Weir may be trying a new event this year. Despite winning silver at the Moscow World Championships in 2013 and bronze the year before at the London Olympic Games, Weir said he wants to do something different.

The former Calabar star and National Junior representative at the 110m hurdles stated it won't be an hurdling event either.

According to Weir, he would like to try his hand at the 100m this season. "Being that it's a non Championships year, I would like to see how fast I could go.”

Weir’s senior training partner Usain Bolt, who was second behind Tyson Gay at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, Japan, took on the 100m for the first time in 2008. He ended up breaking the 100m world record twice that year – 9.72 at the New York Diamond League and 9.69 to win the 100m at the Beijing Olympic Games.

Bolt went on to lower the mark the follow year to 9.58 at the Berlin World Championships.

Also in Beijing and Berlin, Bolt ran 19.32 and 19.19 for the 200m world record.
