Jaydon Hibbert, the triple jump winner of the Under-20 World Championships, made history in his first appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships. During the event, Hibbert accomplished a remarkable feat, setting a new world record for under-20s by jumping 17.54 meters on his first attempt in New Mexico.
Hibbert’s spectacular performance shattered both the indoor record of 17.20, previously held by Melvin Raffin of France since March 2017, and the outdoor record of 17.50 set by Volker Mai when he represented East Germany in 1985. Moreover, Hibbert also broke Clive Pulllen’s national indoor record set in 2017, making him the new NCAA collegiate record holder.
By choosing to skip the second round, Hibbert has given himself a substantial advantage in the final, where he currently leads the competition.
