Two-time double Olympic Games sprint champion Elaine Thompson-Herah said she had “outgrown” MVP Track Club and gave that reason for leaving.

“I have outgrown the environment pretty much,” she said Wednesday (10 Nov) on Miss Kitty Live on Nationwide 90fm.

“My circle is very small. My team is not really fully developed, but I am working on that. I think what I wanted for myself, and based on the path that I am heading, MVP could not provide that anymore for me, and I think doing it on my own would be better for me,” she said.

Working with husband

“I am working with my husband, he is not really my coach, but I am just working with him; he oversees my program.

The first woman to win back-to-back Olympic Games 100m/220m titles, Thompson-Herah decided to part ways with her longtime club, Jamaica’s MVP, where coach Stephen Francis has guided her to all her successes to date, including that of being the fastest woman alive, with 10.54 (100m) and 21.53 (200m).

Thompson-Herah announced her decision to leave the club on 18 Oct, weeks after news broke that she told the club in a letter. She had initially denied the news, labelling it “rumours.”

“What I want for myself and to better myself was not provided, so I have to find ways to get it,” Thompson-Herah said.
