TOKYO, Japan: The Japan Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF) has entered a bid to host the 2025 World Championships at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo. Tokyo 2025?

According to Kyodo News, the city of Tokyo has entered the race with a decision from World Athletics expected to come in March 2022.

In August, World Athletics president Sebastian Coe in an interview with the Asahi Newspaper, hinted he wanted to give something special to Japan. He spoke of the possibility of taking the World Championships to Tokyo.

“I promise to bring athletics back to Japan at a time when everyone can be a part of it,” Coe was quoted as saying then.

Tokyo has previously staged the World Championships in 1991. However, the event has returned to Japan since then, with Osaka playing host in 2007.

Nairobi in Kenya and Chorzow (Silesia) in Poland are also expected to bid for the event.
