Elaine Thompson Herah will lead several world-class athletes to take part at this weekend’s (10 April) inaugural Miramar Invitational; a Continental Tour Silver meet in Florida.
Thompson Herah, the Rio 2016 sprint double champion, will headline the women’s 200m, which will also have fellow Jamaican Briana Williams.
Americans Candice Hill, Kyra Jefferson, and Jenna Prandini will also run the 200m.
Jamaica’s world champion Tajay Gayle is also down to compete. He starts favourite in the men’s long jump against Trinidad and Tobago’s Marquis Goodwin and Trumaine Jefferson of USA.
The women’s 100m is loaded. Jamaicans Kasheika Cameron, Natallah Whyte and Natasha Morrison have entered the contest.
The Americans down for the event are Dezerea Bryant, Sha’Carri Richardson, Javianne Oliver, Kortney Johnson, Kiara Parker, English Gardner, Destiny Smith-Barnett and Teahna Daniels.
In the men’s 100m, Nesta Carter will go up against Americans Mike Rodgers, Demek Kemp, Justin Gatlin, Isiah Young and Jeffery Demps.
CJ Green of Antigua, Guyanese Jeremy Bascom and Barbuda and Barbadian Mario Burke are also in the sprint event.
Andrew Riley and Ronald Levy are the Jamaicans down for the men’s 110m hurdles. This event will also include Caribbean entrances Eddie Lovett and Reuben Walter of Trinidad and Tobago.
Grant Holloway, who recently set a new world 60m hurdles record, will headline the event.
Akeem Bloomfield is the only Jamaican set to contest the men’s 200m. Fred Kerley, who ran 10.03 on the weekend, is the man to beat in the half-lap event.
Nathon Allen, who didn’t finish his race on the weekend in Florida, is listed for the men’s 400m. Americans Michael Cherry, Kahmari Montgomery and Quincy Hall have also entered the event.
Jamaican Stephenie McPherson and Barbadian Sada Williams will run the women’s 400m against Americans Shamire Little and Kaylin Whitney.
Jamaican Natoya Goule and American Ajee Wilson will again battle in the women’s 800m.
Rajay Hamilton is in the men’s 800m.
Shermaine Williams will run the women’s 100m hurdles against world record holder Kendra Harrison. Bahamian Pedrya Seymour is also in the sprint obstacle.
Shawn Rowe is down for the 400m hurdles, while Portious Warren of Trinidad and Tobago will contest the women’s shot put.
