World Athletics is yet to decide if they will follow the Asian Athletics Association (AAA) to cancel their Indoor Championships in China.

The 9th Asian Indoor Athletics Championships, scheduled from Feb 12-13 at Hanzhou, China is cancelled due to the 2019 novel coronavirus outbreak.

The global outbreak of the virus originated from Wuhan in the Chinese mainland.

Karim Ibrahim, AAA’s Council Member, confirmed his executive decision, which was taken following an emergency telephone conference on Sunday.

However, World Athletics said it’s in consultation with the World Health Organization and will make a decision soon about its World Indoor Championships, set for March 13-15 in Nanjing.

“We are waiting to hear back from them, and we will decide from that,” World Athletics is reporting.

Jamaica’s sprint hurdler Janeek Brown, who was always looking forward to the meet, is now expressing concerns.

“Today, I was like coach; you still want to send me over there? and he was like, ‘we will see what happen’ with it, but for now, I am just trying to get races in.”
