Aleia Hobbs Takes First Place in Women's 60m Final at LSU Purple Tiger Meet

BATON ROUGE, La. – Senior sprinter Aleia Hobbs has earned her third-straight appearance on the Bowerman Watch List the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association of America announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Hobbs is one of 10 female student-athletes to be named to the Pre-Conference Championships Watch List. A native of New Orleans, Hobbs is one of four sprinters on the list joined by Kendall Ellis (USC), Sydney McLaughlin (Kentucky) and Gabby Thomas (Harvard).

Hobbs put the NCAA track and field community on notice in mid-March when she won the 60-meter national title with a NCAA record time of 7.07. The time of 7.07 is also an LSU school record. During the outdoor season, Hobbs has done nothing but remain one of the top sprinters in the country. She ran a 10.86 in the 100 meter dash at the Texas Relays; that wind-aided mark is the fastest in collegiate history.

She has also been a mainstay on the best 4×100 meter squad in the NCAA this season. LSU’s 4×1 is an impressive 7-0 in 2018 and owns five of the six fastest times in the NCAA. The 42.49 that the squad clocked last week at the LSU Invitational is No. 1 in the NCAA.

The Bowerman – collegiate track & field’s highest honor – is awarded each year to the top male and female collegiate athletes in the sport of NCAA track and field.
