The Trelawny Multi-Purpose stadium is to be renamed Usain Bolt Sport Academy.

According to Minister with Responsibility for Sports Natalie Neita-Headley the renaming of the Stadium in Bolt’s home parish will be done in the near future.

Neita Headley said the renaming of the stadium “has been the prime minister's dream, not just since Beijing 2015, but it will reflect her (PM) desire to have that stadium in his (Bolt's) honour.”

Bolt, regarded as the fastest person ever, is the first man to hold both the 100 metres and 200 metres world records since fully automatic time measurements became mandatory in 1977.

Bolt has won back-to-back Olympic Games 100m, 200m and 4x100m titles in 2008 and 2012. He also won four straight 200m World titles between 2009 and 2015, adding to three 100m titles.

However, according to Neita-Headley, who was speaking at Jamaica House Press Briefing, "We would not do so, however, until the completed finance of putting in a track is realized.”

The stadium was built in 2007 to accommodate Jamaica’s hosting of the ICC World Cup.
