Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce were winners at the 2015 UTech Classic at the National Stadium in Kingston on Saturday.

Bolt, who was running his first 200m since his Moscow World Championships success two years ago, topped the event in 20.20 seconds. 

He told“ It wasn’t the perfect race, so I will have to go back and look to see what to improve on,” adding, “I always want to run 19 seconds” but I didn’t feel as smooth.” World Championships 100m bronze medallist Nesta Carter was second in 20.60.

In the women’s event, World sprint double champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce took top honours in 22.96, just ahead of Sherone Simpson 22.97.

After, she told us, “I executed as normal” while adding “I ran the first part hard and it was catch me if you can.”

Elaine Thompson12However, the night was all about new kid on the block Elaine Thompson, a student at UTech, who ran a world leading and personal best 10.92 seconds to win the women’s 100m event.

"Words can't explain but I am really happy. honestly,” said Thompson. "To get 10.92, I am overwhelmed. My own expectation was to deliver and set my name out there," she added.

Two other UTech students Natasha Morrison 11.17 and Christania Williams 11.18 were second and third respectively in the event (Wind:+1.0m/s wind)

Kemarley Brown 10.11 edged out Julian Forte 10.12 and Kemar Bailey-Cole 10.14 in the men's equivalent.

Javon Francis 45.50 got the better of Edino Steele 46.35 in heat 4 of the men’s 400m, but Javere Bell, who won heat 2 in 45.68, was second overall.

In the college men’s section, Olympic Games 110m hurdles bronze medallist Hansle Parchment finished third in 49.14. This section was won by Janeko Cartwright of UWI in 47.88.

Shericka Jackson topped the women's 400m in a World leading and personal best of 51.39 ahead of Janieve Russell 51.93 and Anastasia Le-Roy 52.00.

Roland Levy won the men’s 110m hurdles in a meet record 13.71 ahead of UWI’s Deuce Carter 13.96.

In the field, O'Dayne Richards was the most impressive with 21.00m in the men’s shot put.

Genneva Greaves threw a record 14.58m in the women’s shot put.
