KINGSTON, Jamaica – Olympics 200-metre bronze medallist Warren Weir has signed a deal with dairy products manufactures and distributors, Serge Island as the company’s brand ambassador.
He returned to take silver in the same event, behind Bolt at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, Russia.
Weir's personal best is 19.79 seconds set at the National Stadium in Kingston last summer. He has since equalled his personal best in Moscow, at the World Championship final.
The dollar figure for the deal was not disclosed.
The company in a release stated, "the multi-million dollar deal with Weir was brokered by local sports management firm, PowerSports Dynasty Consultancy Services."
Deidre A Wisdom, brand manager for Serge Island, told TrackAlerts.Com that Weir was the perfect fit for her company's brand.
Wisdom said, “Weir is very disciplined, very quiet, but a humble young man who has a lot he can teach the younger kids, and those were some of the reasons why we choose him.”
Serge Island Milk, a household brand, has a long affinity with Jamaican athletes and one of its last major promotional was with West Indies captain Jimmy Adams.
Weir, who said he is gearing up for some fast times this season, is looking forward to be the best ambassador to help lift the spirit of Jamaican kids.
Weir said "its a relationship where I will be giving back to the youths, so we will be working with them on and off the track.”
