KINGSTON, Jamaica – Sprinter Asafa Powell testified today at his drug hearing that physical trainer, Canadian Chris Xuereb was the first non-doctor to administer injection to him.

Powell, who was giving evidence into his positive test for the banned stimulant oxilofrine, which is contained in Epipphany D1, said he trusted Xuereb up to the day he was informed about the test.

Asked by the Chairman of the Jamaica Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel Lennox Gayle about the length of time it took him to trust Xuereb, Powell said “about four weeks.”

Xuereb was referred to Powell less than two months before the positive test.

Powell told the panel that he trusted Xuereb to inject him because he had received a similar injection once before from Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt in Germany.

Dr. Japhet Ford, another member of the panel, had earlier asked Powell if he could recall how many injections he had received from the trainer.

Powell told the hearing that he received about four injections from the Canadian.

Powell identified Octovogen and Vitamin B12 as the drugs which were administered by Xuereb through injections.

JADCO's lawyer Lackston Robinson told the panel he has a statement from the Italian Police he wanted to enter in evidence.

However, Robinson’s request was objected by Powell’s lead attorney Kawame Gordon, who said not before the origin and entity that does the translation can be identified.

Powell’s former training partner, Sherone Simpson was called as a witness.

Simpson told the panel she knew Powell was taking the supplements as Xuereb had confirmed it to her.

Powell and Simpson are among five Jamaican athletes who failed drugs tests at the national championships last year.

Powell and Simpson tested positive for the same stimulant. Simpson faced the panel last week but her drug case was adjourned until February 4.

The other athletes, Discus throwers Allison Randall and Traves Smikle and high-jumper Demar Robinson had their disciplinary cases heard last month.
