PRETORIA, South Africa — Namibian sprinter Beatrice Masilingi shattered the African Record in the women’s 300m on Sunday (19 Feb) at the Simbine Curro Classic in Pretoria, clocking a blazing time of 34.60s.

The 19-year-old Masilingi, who missed last year’s World Championships due to injury, moved to second place on the all-time Toplist behind Bahamian Shaunae Miller-Uibo, who holds the top time of 34.41s.
Masilingi’s impressive performance in Pretoria saw her break the previous African record of 35.30s set by South African track star Anaso Jobodwana in 2019.
Masilingi burst onto the international athletics scene in 2019 when she won silver medals in the women’s 100m and 200m at the African Games in Rabat, Morocco. She is now considered one of Namibia’s top athletes and a rising star in the world of track and field.
The Simbine Curro Classic is an annual athletics event held in honor of South African sprinter Akani Simbine, who won a gold medal in the men’s 100m at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
