Sha’Carri Richardson is hoping she will be the one to break Florence Griffith Joyner’s (Flo-Jo) world 100m record of 10.49 seconds.

Jamaica’s Olympic Games sprint double champion Elaine Thompson-Herah has gone the closest with 10.54, a time she ran two weeks ago to win the Prefontaine Classic.

Flo-Jo is also the women’s 200m record holder with 21.34. Thompson-Herah ran 21.53, the second-fastest ever, to win in Tokyo.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, a week ago, said: “A few years ago, the world record seemed far away, but now it looks possible, although Elaine is closer to it than I am right now!”

Sha’Carri Richardson, who is running the 200m at Friday’s (3 Sept) Brussels Diamond League, wants the world records to stay in the US.

Sha’Carri Richardson, however, said: “We as sprinters knew there would be an enormous eagerness to be the fastest woman in the world this year.”

“We haven’t experienced such a level since ‘Flo-Jo’. I actually hope that her world record will be improved so that I can eventually bring the record back to the United States,” said Richardson, who is in Brussels for Friday’s Diamond League 200m race.

Sha’Carri Richardson is the sixth fastest woman of all time with 10.72, done to win the US Olympic Trials. She, however, was banned for a month and missed the Tokyo 2020 games.

Thompson-Herah, 10.54, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, 10.60, Carmelita Jeter, 10.64 and Marion Jones, 10.65 are top of the all-time list.

Thompson-Herah, a few days ago said: “I didn’t come into this season with the world record on my mind, but after seeing what I did in Eugene, I know I’m close, so let’s see what happens,” she said.

  1. Why Jamaicans so BAD-MIND … Why u people hate Sha’Carri Richardson so bad.
Stop bad-mind the girl because she is more popular over your jamaicans

  2. Colour me confused, but what does this mean: “I actually hope that her world record will be improved so that I can eventually bring the record back to the United States,” said Richardson. It is already difficult to break 10.49 so she wants the record to move to some time quicker so that she can break that quicker time? Really?

Well sha’carri, you have mboma in the 200m race in brussels. when mboma breaks the 200m record by running 20.86. i wish you well breaking that and bringing it back to the usa.

    • Not. don’t let’s go over board and jump the shark now. Neither fraser-pryce nor jackson has a chance in hell of breaking flo-jo’s record. elaine is the only one who came and will come close. the rest – no.

  3. We are going to discipline yu for what Justin Gatlin said. an discipline yu 1 more time or passing your place with Allyson Felix. Mmmhh🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲

  4. Girl can’t even reach the podium and she talking about record already. Other athletes high on the podium but she high on the weed 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️💨💨💨

  5. With 10.72 been her fastest time and she is the one to beat the illegal record? Pluueessee! Then again, going on steroids like her playmate Justin Gatlin and getting high on THC will ensure she does. I won’t hold my breath

    • Shazzar Kallie didn’t you see him acting like she is his protégé? And defending her? Trust and Believe, I. WILL. NOT. HOLD. MY. BREATH.!

  6. Carolyn Peart now you talking the record can broke by anyone because you see the jamaican going to dismantle from 10.49 bring to 10.45 a we say sprint country Jamaica a we say sprint star Americans dont like other countries winning kt must only be them

  7. Carolyn Peart behaving like a spoiled child. Finish the race first b4 talking about record. Little girl make sure the news isn’t ” Shacarri failed drugs test” hoping that no steriods b4 the race.

  8. She needs a little guidance, of course that record can be broken by anyone. She’s just an attention seeker. Behave badly and we give you even more attention ( the media should stop enabling her). She needs to go and work on herself.

  9. How many gold medals Sha’Carri won? I’m just asking because one would think she has just as much as Usain Bolt the amount of press she gets far exceeds the other US athletes that has way more Lol.

  10. trackalerts you guys have a solid base of followers. No need to keep posting irrelevant things related to this athlete, in order to drive traffic to this page. Leave that for other less reputable track and field FB pages.

  11. BEFORE YOU HATE REMEMBER SHE’S CLOSER TO HER DREAMS THAN YOU… SO IF SHE SHOULDN’T STRIVE THAN YOU SHOULD QUIT IMMEDIATELY.

    • Carlos Losa Moore tell her respect Allison Felix then she can talk to our jamaican ,when we get up in the morning we get a bath or shower what every you call it brushes our teeth comb our hair we make sure we have proper hygiene before we go to bed we have another shower and we eat healthy thats how we are so powerful so haters you cant stop we

    • Carlos Losa Moore she is 6th and dead last against people slower than her, not 1st or 2nd. So she need to ask herself that. She’s the track star not us

    • Carlos Losa Moore well said bro, even the Jamaicans 🇯🇲 are the closest to that dream than us, lolzzz. FastElaine and Mama Rocket.

    • Carlos Losa Moore that is her job not ours. She is a professional athlete, her job is to run. If running was my job, then your point would be valid.

  12. Troy Williams and that’s the problem.. whether it’s the media or ppl making it into something bigger than just women or athletes being competitive.. we separate ourselves enough as it is within our own community and this doesn’t make it better. Celebrate who ever wins regardless of nationality.

  13. Drew Holliday she’s a young lady with a whole future ahead of her. She made a couple of mistakes. As I’m sure you have as well. Just not in front of the whole world. I’m not in a position to bash this young lady. I don’t know but I can imagine the pressure she’s under. I’m not just talking about Track. I mean life, the pressure she deals with a lot of 40 and 50 yr Old people would fold under it. So make your jokes I’m going to pray for her. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 She won before she can win again. I’m take a wild guess and say that she’s faster than you in the 100 smoking weed and all. 😎

    • Shes making this into a Jamaica vs. USA thing.. athletes are competitive these women no matter their nationality are competing against each other not countries.. the divide needs to stop.. just go out there run your best win or loose congradulate your opponents and be humble

  14. Reading what Richards said; she wants the world record to come back to the us…ITs still in the us, flo jo is an american so what a you talking about…was wondering if she ever did any académics at her college🤭 my opinión
