Sachin Dennis to run for Bahrain?

Sachin Dennis, one of Jamaica’s brightest teenage sprinters, ran his first 100m in over a year.

Dennis, who has been in the news recently about switching allegiance Bahrain, had two 100m rounds at Tuesday’s (11 Feb) Western Champs in Santa Cruz.

In the heats, on his St. Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) home ground, Dennis qualified for the semi-finals in 11.32s.

Dennis, who STETHS’ Principal Keith Wellington said was in doubt for Champs 2020, returned to run 10.85 in the semi-finals to advance as the 5th overall qualifier.

Ackeem Blake of Merlene Ottey, 10.61s, Rusea’s pair of Jevaughn Whyte, 10.69 and Raheem Scott, 10.75 are fastest qualifiers.

Lacovia High’s Dermain Campbell secured a massive personal best of 7.10m to win the Class Two long jump. He beat Cornwall College’s Alrick Ottey 2014 mark of 6.85m.

Meanwhile, STETHS held a four-point lead over Cornwall College after 12 finals.

STETHS lead with 96.5 points, ahead of Cornwall College, 92, Petersfield High, 77, Herbert Morrison Technical, 42.5, and Rusea’s High, 37.5 for the top five.
