Sydney McLaughlin Will Bypass World Juniors, Focus On Rio Olympic Games

KNOXVILLE, USA – Sydney McLaughlin broke her own world junior 400m hurdles record with 52.75 at the final of the day (13 May) of SEC Championships.

McLaughlin, beating the two-week-old previous best of 53.60, also moved to ninth on the all-time list. In 2016, the talented teen skipped the World U20 Championships for the Rio Olympic Games

The result is also a World lead and College record. She also helped the University of Kentucky to a win in the 4x400m in 3:25.99.

Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico shaved 0.18 off her 100m hurdles national record and WL with an impressive 12.40s. Alexis Duncan was second in 12.79s.

Holloway sets world leading sprint hurdles time at SEC Championships

Another world lead went to Grant Holloway in the men’s sprint hurdles 13.15 PB with Daniel Roberts 13.27, also a personal best, for second place.

Kendal Williams completed a sprint double in 9.99s and 20.15s. Jamaican Raheem Chambers, 10.10 finished second while Mustaqeem Williams got third in 10.12.

Williams finished second in the 200m with 20.25.

Aleia Hobbs won the 100m in 10.92 ahead of Shania Collins 10.99 while 19-year-old Lynna Irby took the 200m in a personal best 22.25, beating Collins 22.47.

LSU women with Brisco, Johnson, Misher and Hobbs clocked collegiate record and World leading 42.05 in the 4x100m to beat Kentucky 42.30.

Jamaican Allen runs personal best to win 400m at SEC Championships

The 400m saw Jamaican Nathon Allen taking the top spot in 44.28 ahead of Nathan Strother, 44.34.

“It’s all about progression, I hope I can keep running better and stay healthy, and hopefully, I can do my best when it matters most,” Allen said.

Jamaican Kemar Mowatt got the 400m hurdles victory in 49.32.

LSU got the win over Arkansas in the 4×100, both teams were given identical 38.76s.

Texas AM won the 4x400m in 3:01.17 over LSU 3:01.98.

US Tahar Triki won the triple with 16.91m, a personal best.
