Zharnel Hughes will miss the Rio 2016 Olympic Games because of a knee injury.

One of the world’s best young sprinters, with a personal best time of 10.10 (100m), 20.02 (200m) and 46.95 (400m), the Anguilla-born, Hughes was seeking to represent Great Britain at the Olympic Games from August 5-21.

A training partner of Usain Bolt, who himself had an injury setback at the Jamaica Olympic Trials, he expressed sadness at the outcome.

“Sad I will miss out on my first Olympics due to a knee injury,” the young star confirmed on social media.

The 2014 Boys Champs 100m Class 1 gold medallist, in a record 10.12, who must compete for mother country, Great Britain because Anguilla doesn’t have an Olympic Association, is with the British team for the European Championships in Amsterdam
He ran 21.21 in the heats and failed to make progress.

“It’s a bit disappointing, but God knows best and I trust Him that everything going to be okay,” he added on not being able to make it to Rio.
