Kingston College’s (KC) Akeen Bloomfield ran a fast time to win the Under-20 boys 400m final on Sunday’s final day of Jamaica’s Carifta Games Trials at the National Stadium (Click for race video here).

Bloomfield stopped the clock in 45.41 seconds, a personal best, to beat Terry Thomas of Great Portmore finished 10 metres back in 47.05.

"I am not surprised with the win, but a little surprised with the time, as I did not expect to run that fast," said Bloomfield.

BloomfieldRobin Black of STETHS took third place in 47.18 while St. Jago’s Ivan Henry was fourth in 47.31.

In the Under-20 girls final, Tiffany James, who crossed the line second, was given the victory in 53.49.

Dawnalee Loney of Camperdown got second in 53.59.

Hydel’s Aleesha Kelly, who crossed the line first in 53.30, was disqualified for lane violation (see video on

STETHS’ Junelle Bromfield, however, recorded the day’s fastest time by a female. She won the Under-18 final in 53.30 ahead of Vere’s Sanique Walker 54.53 and Satanya Wright, also of STETHS, 55.24.

The Carifta Games will be held in St. Kitts and Nevis from April 4-6.
