The 100m finals set for Saturday’s (13 March) second day of Jamaica’s Carifta Games Trials are going to be very exciting.

After Friday’s early rounds, Hydel’s duo of Kerrica Hill and Alana Reid and Edwin Allen’s trio of Tina Clayton, Tia Clayton and Serena Cole showed glimpses of fireworks on Saturday night.
Hill led them into the final with a personal best run of 11.31. However, as she did, Tina Clayton, 11.39 and twin sister Tia, 11.41, were also comfortable qualifying.
Reid was second to Hill in 11.40, and Cole, who stopped after 80 meters, crossed the line behind Tina in 11.83.
Alexis James of Petersfield is also knocking on the door with her 11.62 to qualify.
In the U20 boys’ 100m, DeAndre Daley, Herbert Morrison’s Western champion, sizzled to a personal best of 10.30 to lead the qualifiers. Sandrey Davison of St. Catherine recorded the day’s second-fastest time of 10.32, also a personal best.
However, Bryan Levell of Edwin Allen and Kingston College’s (KC) Bouwahjgie Nkrumie, with times of 10.39 and 10.55, respectively, should stand tall in the final.
Theianna lee Terrelonge of Edwin Allen High, 11.73, Shemonique Hazle of Hydel, 11.76 and Camoy Binger of St. Jago, 11.78, are the U17 girls under 12 seconds.
There were also three sub-11 men on the U17 boys’ side, Shaquane Gordon of Calabar, 10.79, Gary Card of Wolmer’s, 10.85 and Romario Hines of Spotvalley, 10.98.
In the 1500m finals, J’Voughnn Blake outclassed the U20 boys’ field to win in 3:55.45. Holmwood’s Jody-Ann Mitchell won the U20 girls’ final in 4:37.18.
Andrene Peart of Holmwood, 4:53.10 beat Kededra Coombs of St. Jago, 4:54.30 in the U17 girls’ 1500m.
Yoshane Bowen of Maggotty won the U17 boys’ 1500m final in 4:09.21 ahead of Jamaica College (JC) Tyrone Lawson, 4:11.25.
Kobe Lawrence of Calabar threw 19.29m to take the U209 boys’ shot, while KC’s Despiro Wray won the U17 section with 14.23m.
Britannia Johnson of Camperdown won the U20 girls’ shot with 14.65m, while Hydel’s Natassia Burrell threw 13.84m for the U17 title.
Serena Cole, who left the U20 girls’ long jump to run the 100m, had already topped the field with a 5.99m leap. St. Jago’s Balvin Israel won the U20 boys’ event with 7.22m.
