World 100m champion Sha’Carri Richardson has announced she won’t be competing this weekend (6 April) Miramar Invitational, marking a further delay to her 2024 season. Richardson enjoyed a stellar 2023 season, securing her long-awaited global title: the women’s 100m gold at the Budapest 2023 World Championships.

“I just want to let everybody know I will not be competing this weekend in Miramar,” she conveyed in a video message on her social media page.

She explained her decision to personally update fans: “I am not going to be like most people to let you find out through the grapevine, I want you to hear it from the horse’s mouth,” she added, emphasizing her non-participation.

“I don’t want everybody to get their hopes up,” she further stated, acknowledging the Miramar Invitational as “going to be a great meet” with “great athletes competing.”

Richardson did not specify when she intends to kick off her 2024 season but promised a “different year, different approach, and different energy to come.”
