Kemba Nelson On The Double

The Mount Alvernia and UTech alum won the 100 meters in a season’s-best 11.05 seconds into a -0.1 headwind and the 200 in a personal best of 22.74. She also helped the lady Ducks defend their 4×1 championship in 42.91 with her efforts on the second leg.

“Last year at PAC12 I ran 11.3 and 23.5 and this year 11.05 and 22.7. Proud of myself,” Kemba Nelson tweeted on Monday as she commented on her improvement over the 2021 times and performances that had seen her place second and fourth respectively.

The 2021 NCAA Indoor 60-meter champion and former record holder of 7.05 (recently lowered in 2022 to 7.04 by compatriot Julien Alfred of Texas) looked to redeem her disappointing 2022 indoor campaign with better results at outdoor NCAAs, when she ran a windy 10.90 (+2.2) behind Cambrea Sturgis’ 10.74, Twanisha Terry’s 10.79, and Tamara Clarke’s 10.88.

After her 2021 collegiate obligations, Kemba Nelson ended her season with a 7^th-place finish at the Jamaican Olympic Trials 100-meter final with an 11.16-second effort.

The Montego Bay native has the crux of her season ahead with the NCAA West Preliminary Meets taking place between May 25-28 and the NCAA Championships scheduled for June 8 through 11. The Jamaican Senior National Championships are set for June 23-June 26th.

“A step in the right direction … so much to work on yet so much to be grateful for! But anyways!! PAC-12 Champ,” Kemba Nelson tweeted on Monday.
