TUCSON – Jamaican Salcia Slack won the heptathlon while Akela Jones set a new Barbados record and Kurt Felix topped the decathlon at the Jim Click Combined on Friday.

Slack improved to 6,141 points in her pet event with individual results of 13.68 (100h); 1.62m (hj); 14.99m (sp); 23.92 (200m); 6.06m (lj); 43.77m (javelin); 2.14.34 (800m).

A former Holmwood Technical student/athlete, she described her weekend as “great”. Among her performances, she listed as 3 personal best efforts – shot putt (14.99m), 200m (23.92) 100mh (13.68), “which helped me to get a score of 6141 points.”

“It’s always a journey for me. I have the never (say) die attitude because I know what I want so I always go for it no matter what.” She concluded saying,
“I can only challenge myself to get better at this World Championships.”

World junior long jump champion Jones scored 6,049 points for the new Barbados record. The individual results: 13.67 (100h); 1.83 (hj); 12.30 (sp); 23.72 (200m); 6.33 (lj); 34.53 (javelin) and 2.21.62 (800m).

Jones was happy, but said “my marks in the javelin and long jump can definitely improve but I must congratulate myself for an awesome run in the 800m.”

She added, “I got a personal best by some 14 seconds and my coaches were super proud of me!! The fight and path to greatness continues. Go Barbados Go Wildcats.”

Meanwhile, Felix from Grenada, who is a Commonwealth Games medalist, topped the decathlon with 7895 points.
