Jauavney James of STETHS won the boys’ Under-18 400m hurdles final on Saturday's opening day of Jamaica’s 2015 Carifta Games Trials (click here for vidoes of the races).  

James won in 52.77 ahead of Timor Barrett of St. Jago 53.65 and KC’s Chadrick Brown 56.79.

Meanwhile, Junelle Bromfield of St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) and Andrenette Knight of St. Jago were the female 400m hurdles winners. 

Bromfield, in the Under-18 girls’ section, covered the one-lap obstacle event in 58.13 seconds, the fastest time of the day to Vere’s Sanique Walker 59.04.

Shiann Salmon of Hydel 59.75 was the only other athlete to break 50-second in the final.

In the Under-20 girls section, Knight of St. Jago, topped the field in 58.63. Edwin Allen’s Shannon Kalawan was the only other person to dip under 50secs with 59.51.
