KINGSTON, Jamaica – The men's sprint hurdles battle highlighted day 3 of the JAAA Supreme Ventures National Senior Championships on Saturday – Andrew Riley beat Hansle Parchment.
Riley, who got a very good start, won in 13.27 (-0.2m/s wind) over national record holder Hansle Parchment, who came back strong in the end, 13.29. Richard Phillips, who was unable to stay close to the leaders, finished third in 13.72.
Natoya Goule, who matched toe for toe by Simoya Campbell up to the last 150m, finished strong in 2:01.34. Campbell, however, was credited with a personal best of 2:02.43 for second while Yanique Malcolm finished third in 2:02.51.
In the men's discus, which proved competitive throughout the rounds and saw the lead change several times between Chad Wright and Jason Morgan, the former prevailed with 62.69m. Morgan was second with 62.29m.
Schoolboy Christoffe Bryan cleared 2.19 to win the high jump and Damar Forbes leaped to 8.10m (+1.6m/s wind) to beat Nicholas Gordon 7.82m in the men's long jump.
Ricardo Cunningham 1:48.10 won the men's 800m, and Danniel Thomas 16.04 topped the women's shot put final.
Rasheed Dwyer posted fastest 200m semifinal time 20.22 (-0.1), but Warren Weir, who was easy in taking semi-final 3 in 20.41 (+0.1m/s) will be hard to beat in the final.
Sheldon Mitchell 20.58 PB (-0.2m/s) also had two impressive rounds on the day.
Sherone Simpson advanced into 200m final with 23.55 (+1.0), but the fastest 23.00 was done by Samantha Henry-Robinson 23.00 (+0.2).
In the women 400m semis, Christine Day with a personal best 50.51, the best on the day, leads the qualifiers into the final. Novlene Williams-Mills 51.34 and Stephanie McPherson 51.10 were winners of their respective semis.
