The Organizing Committee of the Wesley Powell Track & Field Meet launched the 19th edition of the meet today at Excelsior High School in Kingston, revealing three honorees for the 2022 staging.

In keeping with the special focus on Women in the sport by World Athletics, the honorees will include Olympian Grace Jackson, who served as Meet Director for many years.
Mrs Marie Tavares, JAAA Honorary Secretary and the first female to hold that post at the JAAA and Mrs Edna Atkinson, a retired teacher for her service to Excelsior High School, are the other honorees.

This year, there is a higher interest from Primary School and Collegiate teams. The meet, which will be celebrating its 19th renewal, had Mrs Audrey Hinchcliff, CEO of Manpower & Maintenance Ltd Group, deliver a keynote address.

She spoke about “The Power of Believing” and shared five keys for unlocking that power. They are 1. Self-awareness, 2. Vision, 3. Letting go of negative experiences, 4. The power to press on, and 5. Using Courage.

The meet will be at Excelsior High School on Saturday, December 10th starting at 8:30 am and will have 71 events for High School and Collegiate athletes in events.

These include 150m, 300m, 600m, 1000m, 3000m, 5000m, 4x300m Relay, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put and Javelin.
