Team Barbados filed an Appeal after the Semi-Finals 110m Hurdles Men, Heat 1 at the 17th IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019.
According to the meet organizers, “Team Barbados claim that their athlete Shane Brathwaite was impeded by the athlete, Jamaican Roland Levy, running in lane 7.
The Barbados team management is claiming that “cost him (Brathwaite) a place in the Final as the fastest loser.”
“They claim the athlete in lane 7 trailed his leg into lane 8 (Shane BRATHWAITE) making contact inevitable, forcing BRATHWAITE to take action to avoid contact and causing him to lose balance, interfering with his rhythm.”
“Team Barbados request that their athlete Shane BRATHWAITE be advanced to the Final, due to the interference in a critical stage of the race.
Brathwaite back in 110m hurdles final
“The Jury of Appeal met and, after reviewing the video of the race, concluded that BRATHWAITE (BAR) was interfered with by the athlete in lane 7 (Ronald LEVY, JAM).
The appeal was upheld, and the Jury directs that LEVY be disqualified and BRATHWAITE be advanced to the Final
The men’s 110m hurdles final is 3:00 pm Jamaica time today (2 Oct).

Obstruction
2. If an athlete is jostled or obstructed during an event so as to impede his progress, then:
(a) if the jostling or obstruction is considered unintentional or is caused otherwise than by an athlete, the Referee may, if he is of the opinion that an athlete (or his team) was seriously affected, in accordance with Rule 125.7 or Rule 146.4, order that the race (for one, some or all of the athletes) be re-held or allow the affected athlete (or team) to compete in a subsequent round of the event;
(b) if another athlete is found by the Referee to be responsible for the jostling or obstruction, such athlete (or his team) shall be liable to disqualification from that event. The Referee may, if he is of the opinion that an athlete (or his team) was seriously affected, in accordance with Rule 125.7 or Rule 146.4, order that the race (for one, some or all of the athletes) be re-held excluding any disqualified athlete (or team) or allow any affected athlete (or team) (other than any disqualified athlete or team) to compete in a subsequent round of the event.
Note: In cases considered serious enough, Rules 125.5 and 145.2 may also be applied.
